Exhibiting at VentureFest 2008.

04/07/08

VentureFest Stand We had a fantastic time exhibiting at VentureFest. We had a tremendous amount of interest in our technology – almost ran out of business cards.

The visitors had a chance to see first hand the quality of the delivery and the potential of our Mobile Optimization platform with a sample of mobile phone models. Overall, the reactions were of general surprise of the quality of user interface and experience achieved on pretty much any mobile phone (including some of the older models).

Quite interestingly, there was also particular interest from a number of VCs and Business Angles. Thanks to the contacts gained at VentureFest we are looking forward to progressing some of our newly formed relationships.

mDataLogic has been selected from many candidates to exhibit as part of the Technology Showcase at Venturefest 2008 on July 1st.

22/05/08

mDataLogic are very proud to announce that we have been selected to exhibit at the Technology Showcase at Venturefest 2008 on the 1st of July.

The Technology Showcase is an exhibition of innovative technology coordinated by The Oxford Trust. Small and early-stage companies, representing a wide range of different technology sectors, will display their products and services through a series of visual displays, hands-on demonstrations and soapbox pitches.

The Showcase gives investors a chance to find out about new opportunities, and provides all delegates with a chance to learn more about various innovative technologies. It is an informal hands-on event where entrepreneurs demonstrate their products and services, giving members of the technology industry the opportunity of directly interacting with the new technology, and more importantly, the people behind the innovations. Nothing quite compares to a physical hands-on demonstration and it is this personal interaction with technology that is at the heart of the Technology Showcase.

We will be on hand to demonstrate our technology and answer any questions, so come visit our exhibition space!

Vodafone has just announced that all new and current customers on monthly plans will now have an Unlimited Data Package thrown in for free.

01/05/08

Vodafone has just announced that all new and current customers on monthly plans will now have an Unlimited Data Package thrown in for free. Until now Vodafone had charged £7.50 to add their Unlimited Data package to a monthly plan.

Of course in the Mobile Industry "Unlimited" is always finite and limited by a fair-use policy. In the past Vodafone have set this limited at a thrifty 120MB but the announcement indicates that the limit has been raised to a more useful 500MB.

Even though all the other operators have similar offerings for as little as £5 a month this announcement is more important from a marketing perspective. Vodafone have removed the need for customers to a) Be aware that an Unlimited Data options exists and b) Decide whether they would need to have one.

We are sure the other operators are likely to follow suit pretty soon.

mDataLogic takes part in the ground breaking "Over the Air" conference in London.

04/04/08

Over the Air was a special event organised by Mobile Monday London, hosted by Imperial College and supported by the BBC. 48 hours of mobile and wireless development by and for the leading lights in the industry. At the core it was a mobile development event that was part conference, part un-conference. It was the world’s largest non vendor specific mobile developer event to date and embraced all aspects of mobile/wireless development and design.

The developers that were at OTA and the ideas they are coming up with are also increasingly creating an expectation that the mobile web will offer even more; an experience that plays to the strength of the medium, of an integration with other platforms that is more sophisticated than just straight repurposing.

While the mobile web was, quite rightly, an important theme of Over The Air the breadth of talks and prototypes also reflected what a rich area it is for designers and technologists. Applications, Location, Accelerometer interfaces and even remote controlled robots all got a look in.

mDataLogic are really proud to have taken part in this ground breaking event. Can’t wait for next year!

mDataLogic joins the WURFL Manifesto for Responsible Reformatting trying to establish rules for proxy reformatting of "made-for-mobile" content.

24/03/08

The introduction of reformatting proxies by network operators such as Vodafone and Sprint has generated a great deal of outrage within the mobile developer community.

Some Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) such as Vodafone and Sprint are implementing reformatting proxies (i.e. transcoders) into their networks. Unfortunately, this is being done without safeguarding those sites which strive to deliver a mobile-optimised user-experience, who invest time and energy to get mobile sites working optimally on mobile devices.

For these reasons, developers have come up with a "Developer Manifesto for Responsible Reformatting" which clearly spells out the rules that reformatting proxies should follow to preserve the mobile ecosystem.

mDataLogic has joined this manifesto has it believes that although there is place for transponders (in the short to medium term), these should not be implemented at the expense of the mobile user experience. Hence, there should be agreed rules for how transcoders should treat "made-for-mobile" web content, so that the mobile web user receives the most compelling experience.

Our own Mobile Content Optimisation platform is able to deliver dynamic services and applications with every page being unique to each device and optimized in real-time for its specific capabilities. The optimization polices are established at design time taking into account the content and the devices. This is far better proposition for the mobile user than a “dumbed down” experience delivered by any transcoder.
